Od czasu gdy Albania po raz pierwszy uzyskała niepodległość od Włoch w 1912 roku, pieśń "Hymni i Flamurit" została wybrana hymnem narodowym, który był także hymnem w komunistycznej/marksistowskiej Albanii, jak również obecnie, gdy w kraju tym panuje demokracja. Pierwotny tytuł hymnu brzmiał "Flamur mi Betimi" ("Przyrzeczenie Fladze"). Hymn Albanii po raz pierwszy został opublikowany jako wiersz w albańskiej gazecie w Sofii, w Bułgarii - "Liri e Shqipërisë" ("Wolność Albanii"), wydanej 21 kwietnia 1912 roku. Później, w tym samym roku, ukazał się w zbiorze poematów Drenovy pod tytułem "Ëndra e Lot" ("Sny i Łzy"), wydanym w Bukareszcie. Oficjalny hymn jest krótszy o dwie zwrotki od oryginalnego wiersza. Melodia skomponowana została przez Cipriana Porumbescu, autora hymnu rumuńskiego z lat 1977-1989. [Q]
